How are the first amendment and the fourteenth amendment similar?

Both amendments are similar because they grant citizens certain rights. In the first amendment, it is freedom of speech, press, religion. petition, and embly, while the fourteenth amendment ensures that all slaves and African Americans are given the same rights as white citizens.
