Alkaline batteries -- what's the electrolyte?

okay so i understand that alkaline batterieshave the anode (Zinc) and the cathode (manganese dioxide)...and the salt bridge is KOH...what's the electrolyte they are submerged in? are they?? cuz i read about the galvanic cells and i thought they were similar (with being submerged in different electrolytes).
